Some Travel Tips for Foreign Tourists
Important
information for Indian & Foreign Tourists (as per letter No. 5/TMP/(18/88.
Dated 18.10.1988)
In consultation with Ministry
of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs, it has now been decided to allow
foreign tourists to travel along the Leh - Manali road subject to the following
:

Only organized foreign group
tourist conducted by recognized Indian travel agents subject to their representative
accompanying the group so as to ensure that the group will not split during
the entire journey.

The travel by group tourist
will be confined to specified mode of conveyance like jeep/matador etc.

Group tourism will be permitted
only during the period 15th July to 15th October each year

information for Foreign and Indian tourist vide Govt. notification

31.12.1991 read as under:
1. Where as government of
India have pending issue of formal notification for redefine inner line
in Himachal Pradesh under the foreigners (Protected Areas) order 1958 authorized
the State Govt. to issue permit for entry into the protected areas which
are know open for tourist to group consisting of four or more foreigners
sponsored by recognized travel agencies in India with predawn itinerary
permit may be had from From 27th Feb 1993 Indian
National require no permission to visit any part of Kinnaur, Spiti and Lauhal.
It had broadly been decided that the inner line would run 40 Kms to the
west of the Tibet border. Kaza, the principal city of Spiti would be treated
as outside the inner line. However foreign tourist would not be allowed
overnight stay at Puh, Khabo, Subdo, Dhankar Gompa, Tabo and Moorang, doubling
routs and could enter the area only in groups of four or more. It has also
been decided to set up check post at Lipakhad and Tabo to monitor the movement
of foreign tourist.
